Description: A small annual, aromatic herb to 0.5 m with solitary stem, green to purple. Trifoliate leaves and inconspicuous pale whitish-yellow flowers; long thin fruits straight to sharply pointed pods terminating in a beak. Seeds oblong and angular, 3-5 mm long, dived by a deep furrow. Indigenous to the Mediterranean region, China, India and Indonesia.
Constituents: mucilage, alkaloid, steroidal peptide.
Action: demulcent, emollient, galactagogue, hypoglycaemic, laxative, nutritive.
Suggested use as a Traditional Herbal Remedies Only: Anorexia, gastritis, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes mellitus,
Suggested dosage: add 20-40 drops, 1-2 times a day in a little fruit juice or water with food or as directed by your health care practitioner. The use in children under 12 years of age has not been recommended due to lack of adequate data. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage (Dry herb): 1g-5g per day.
Fertility, Pregnancy and Lactation: Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. In the absence of sufficient data, the use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.
