Description: The
root of one of a familiar group of species; the identifying characteristics are
the narrowness of the leaves, with usually a curliness of the long edges, and
the deep yellow colour of the root when scraped. Habitat in arable farmland, on
roadside, in ditches and wast places throughout the world.
Constituents:
Anthraquionone
glycoside, chrysophanol, emodin, essential oil, rhein, tannins, resin, Vitamins
A and C, minerals such as Iron, Manganese and nickel.
Action: Mild cholagogue, alterative, tonic, stimulant laxative, astringent.
Nutritional
ingredients: The young leaves are cooked and eaten as a
pot herb. The tiny seeds are rich in protein and rutin and have been used as a
wild grain. The chaff surrounding the seeds must be removed and the seeds are
toasted. The toasted seeds can be cooked as a grain and they taste like
buckwheat.
Suggested
use as a Traditional Herbal Remedies Only: Yellow dock has a long
history of use as an alterative for chronic degenerative disease. It enhance
liver and bowel function and is used for red, weeping skin conditions (eczema,
psoriasis), arthritis, hypothyroidism, anaemia, and constipation. It has been
used for skin condition with sarsaparilla.
Suggested
dosage: Add 1-2 teaspoon of herbs to a teapot and stir, cover
and leave the tea stand for 10 - 40 minutes in hot water, strain and drink one
to two times a day. The use in children under 12 years of age has not been
recommended due to lack of adequate data. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage
(Dry herb): 5g-10g per day.

Side
Effects: GI irritation and nausea in large doses. As a laxatives
