Description: A
biennial plant, growing up to 2 metres but usually much smaller, with an erect
stem covered at the base with a few prickles and bearing above small bilobular
leaves clasping the stem; there are numerous small, yellow composite flower;
the large radical leaves have bristles on the underside midrib; the whole plant
yields a milky juice when freshly cut and tastes very bitter.
Constituents: Latex
containing bitters, lactucin, lactucone, lactupicrin, an alkaloid, triterpenes.
Action: Sedative,
soothing, digestive tonic.

Suggested
use as a Traditional Herbal Remedies Only:
Indications: irritable and excitable condition, especially where associated with poor digestive function. As a
mild sedative; as an aid in insomnia; to muscular or articular pains.
Suggested
dosage: Add 1-2 teaspoon of herbs to a teapot and stir, cover
and leave the tea stand for 10 - 30 minutes in 220ml of hot water, strain and
drink one times a day. The use in children under 12 years of age has not been
recommended due to lack of adequate data. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage
